Current Release 0.0.4

This release contains a win32 binary, as well as the source code. The source may not be completely up to date with CVS, but it is rather close. This release is still a bit raw, but it shows the progress that has been made.

Goals:

• Zippy town module, building phase
  • Start of basic town related activities: Small quests, store, guards, townspeople
• Start of basic weapon classes
• Mostly-stable Lua referencing system: No slow down after running for a long time
• Various small improvements on scripting interface
• New inventory management scheme for scripts (see ZippyCharacters)
• Expansion of ZippyActions
  • for inventory (see above)
  • for weapon damage (see DamageRules discussion) (still needs improvement)

Post-release goals should go here. Short term is more important than long term. Long term goals not included in this section should go on the ZippyToDoList page?

The release after 0.0.4 is intended for a strong development release, focusing on a framework so others can help in the porting of most of the objects. Some monster porting should be possible at that point as well, but it's not the primary goal at this point.

• Stronger base-classes for characters (shared? separate for player and NPC?)
  • Applications of damage from impacts.
  • Inventory usage. (done)
  • Game Message distributions (for being hit, death) (done)
  • No more talking dead.
• Stronger weapon base-classes. (almost done)
  • Finalize Impact damage effects (add elemental ones)
• Directory layout adjustments. Separate media assets from scripts and game-object definitions. This will make things more expandable. Will use paths as detailed in DataDirectories. More on this topic later. (done)
• Basic saving/restoring functionality (from Elmin)
• Fix particle problem - deleting a referenced particle causes a crash since its freed twice (done)
• Basic tag system similar in purpose to the IDSZ's for 2.22
• Major cleanup and separation of common script back-ends (town member AIs, etc). (almost done)
• Ability to access base class's member functions. (A solution has been found to this)
  • BaseClass.member_fcn(self, args, ...)
• Standard particle types:
  • Money types
  • Are there more?
• Start of treasure chests (done)
• Basic potions (done)
  • Still needs more game effects
  • Still needs better balancing
